On Tuesday 17th May 2022, I was privileged to attend the celebration of the consecration of the new Bishop of Ecuador Central, Rev’d Juan Carlos Quiñonez Mera. The new bishop is from the province of Esmeraldas, which while being a coastal province of Ecuador, it is in the Central Diocese of the Episcopal Church. The new bishop has served as a priest in the Ecuador Central Diocese as Vicar of the Parish of Buen Pastor in the South of Quito and as a financial administrator of the Diocese.
It was a great celebration which attracted people and clergy from all over the diocese. My hosts were Calvin and David from the St. Christopher Mission in Cuenca. It was great to meet them, and we were able to chat about the situation of the Episcopal Church in this area.
We were also introduced to Bishop Michael Curry, the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church in North American and some countries of South and Central America. It was a large gathering of Spanish Speaking Episcopal Bishops both current and retired from other countries in South and Central America.
I include below a gallery of photos of the celebration.
